A friend of mine, Ed Hofer, is an amazing artist and does all kinds of great paintings and raku sculpture, but what he does best is his paintings of dogs and pets.

He can pain in both watercolor and acrylic but he mostly paints with acrylic for his dog art. The pictures above are good examples of what he can do.

But Ed wasn’t always a dog painter. He was in the business world as a graphic designer before being able to follow his passion full-time. As he says… “I was making great money but something was missing. Thankfully, I made enough money to retire young and be able to live my dream of being a full time painter here in my home in the North Carolina mountains.”

He goes on to say…

“The specialization in dog paintings were not planned. They came by accident. First I did a painting of our dog Sterling, and it came out so well I just decided to do more. Eventually people started asking me for custom paintings. When I started displaying them in the Ann Jacob Gallery in Highlands, N.C., they seemed to be the ones that sold best and people asked for the most.”

Anyway the rest has become history. Ed’s dog paintings are beginning to have a following and originals are selling for thousands of dollars. But I think you will agree they are amazing.
